The 1911 pistol is considered by many gun collectors and veterans to be the greatest self-loading pistol ever made and the grandfather of the modern handgun, which despite its age is still used alongside modern pistols today. Designed by John Moses Browning in 1910 with patent dates going as far back as 1897, the .45 caliber pistol was adopted into the U.S. military arsenal February 14, 1911. Browning had combined traits of his former pistols and built a prototype around the recently-developed .45 ACP round. The end result was the M1911.

The weapons of choice for Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) are two gold plated Springfield Armory M1911-A1 V-10s fitted with custom gold inlaid grips, that he keeps in two small-of-the-back holsters. Among the obvious modifications to the guns include skeletonized hammers, ball stirrup cuts on the slide, beavertail grip safeties, ambidextrous slide stop safeties, target sites, moderately beveled magazine wells, and V-10 ported slides/barrels.

With a name that brings to mind a powerful muscle car with a formidable engine, the Springfield V12 is a unique ported 1911 pistol. Reknowned for it’s accuracy, reliability and craftsmanship in the real steel world, the V12 took center stage in the famous Hollywood movie FACEOFF, which pitched Nicholas Cage using a pair of gold plated V12’s with John Travolta sporting a much lesser, albeit still beautiful, nickel slide two-tone P226. Dual wielding these V12’s was expected for any worthy John Wu directed movie, and this was no exception. It’s arguable whether any other pistol has made such an impression as these beautiful pistols did in FACEOFF.

What sticks out most is the hand appointed dragon on the grip panel. I know the gold finishing is eye-popping enough but the dragon looks simply amazing. The ported barrel that you can see through the slots in the slide are an elegant touch to this collectible pistol.

Constructed from high quality aluminium and CNC’d to this precise form, the custom grips are hand-made for this project.
