Correctly selected shims allow the axial play of individual gears to be adjusted so that the gears are not unnecessarily loose while still being able to rotate freely without unwanted binding. The set combines thicknesses of 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm, allowing the required spacing to be built up gradually according to the specific gearbox, bearings and gears. The 0.5 mm thick shims have an outer diameter of 7 mm, which is 1 mm larger than the other shims in the set, making them easier to identify quickly while working. The pack contains a total of 20 shims and, according to the manufacturer, is sufficient for approximately 2–3 guns.
