Tactical clothing and gear are often cut differently from everyday clothes: combat shirts are close-fitting, BDU jackets leave room for a plate carrier, and helmets are sized by head circumference. Use the charts below to pick the right size the first time. Most brands use these standard sizes; when a brand deviates, the product page shows the brand's own chart.
How to measure
- Chest: around the fullest part of your chest, tape horizontal, breathing normally.
- Waist: around your natural waist, just above the hip bones, where your trousers sit.
- Inseam: from the crotch to the floor along the inside of your leg.
- Head: around the widest part of your head, about 2 cm above the eyebrows and ears.
- Hand: around the knuckles, excluding the thumb.
Measure in a T-shirt. Do you wear a thick fleece or a plate carrier under a jacket? Choose one size up for the jacket.
Clothing: shirts, combat shirts, jackets
| Size | Chest (cm) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 82-86 | 70-74 |
| S | 86-94 | 74-82 |
| M | 94-102 | 82-90 |
| L | 102-110 | 90-98 |
| XL | 110-118 | 98-106 |
| 2XL | 118-126 | 106-114 |
| 3XL | 126-134 | 114-122 |
Combat shirts are meant to fit snugly in the torso so they stay flat under a plate carrier; if you are between sizes, choose the smaller one. For jackets and smocks, choose the larger one.
Trousers and combat pants
| Size | Waist (inch) | Waist (cm) | Inseam |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 28 | 71 | Regular 32" (81 cm), Long 34" (86 cm), Short 30" (76 cm) |

| 3XL | 44 | 112 |
Many combat pants have an adjustable waist and knee pads; the knee pad position depends on the inseam, so pick the length that matches your leg, not the one you usually "get away with".

Measure your foot from heel to the longest toe and add about 1 cm for tactical socks. Boots should not be tried on outdoors if you may want to return them.

Most FAST and MICH style airsoft helmets come in one adjustable size with pads; the chart applies to brands with fixed shell sizes.
Plate carriers and chest rigs
Plate carriers are sized by the plate, not by your clothing size. Most carriers take medium SAPI plates (25 x 30 cm) and fit chest sizes from about 90 to 120 cm thanks to the adjustable cummerbund. Large versions take 26 x 33 cm plates. Chest rigs are one size and adjust with straps. In doubt? Choose a medium carrier with an adjustable cummerbund; it fits most players.
