BOLLÉ ULTIM8 BSSI Safety Goggles, Clear Lenses - BlackGoggles seal against your face with a foam gasket and a strap, so a BB cannot slip in from the side or below; they are required at many sites, for juniors almost everywhere and are the safer choice full stop. Safety glasses are lighter, breathe better and suit fast CQB, but they leave gaps and depend on a snug fit and a lower face mask that closes the bottom edge. Whichever you choose, it must carry an EN 166 or ANSI Z87.1 rating; use the certification filter and ignore anything without one. Ballistic-rated models tested to MIL or STANAG standards give extra margin for high-energy sniper hits.
Fog is the enemy of goggles. Dual-pane thermal lenses keep the inner surface warm, anti-fog coatings help for a season, and goggles with a small battery fan clear the lens on demand. Interchangeable lens tints let you swap a clear lens for dusk and indoors, smoke for bright days and yellow for flat light in the woods. Prescription inserts clip inside many goggles, and over-the-glasses (OTG) frames fit over everyday spectacles.
Check the lens height if you wear a helmet, since a low brim can push goggles down, and the shape of the bottom edge against your mask. Goggles and glasses are unrestricted and the one item you must own before your first game.
