Tactical Vests, Chest Rigs & Plate Carriers

Plate carrier, chest rig or tactical vest?

A plate carrier wraps the torso in front and back panels, originally for armour plates, and gives you the most MOLLE space, a cummerbund and the option to clip on placards and back panels. It is the standard for milsim and the most searched tactical vest in Europe. A chest rig is lighter: a front panel with magazine pouches, held by shoulder straps, that packs small and breathes better in summer. A tactical vest or load-bearing vest is the classic beginner option with pouches sewn in place, so you need nothing else to start. Choose by how much you carry and how long you play.

MOLLE, laser-cut and fit

Pouches attach through MOLLE webbing or laser-cut laminate slots; both accept the same pouches, but laser-cut panels are lighter and stiffer. Look at the fabric filter for Cordura 500D or 1000D if you want durability over weight. Most carriers are one-size with adjustable cummerbunds; measure your chest and compare with the stated range, and remember that winter layers add a few centimetres. Match the camo pattern to your combat clothing and consider a hydration pack or backpack that zips onto the back panel.

Setting it up

Keep magazines in front, the radio and medical kit to the side and anything you rarely use on the back. A dump pouch at the hip collects empties. Plate carriers are unrestricted items that anyone can buy, and dummy foam plates are sold for shape and comfort rather than protection.
