Airsoft Sniper Rifles & DMRs

Bolt action or DMR?

A bolt-action airsoft sniper is spring powered: you cock it for every shot, which keeps it quiet, light and almost maintenance-free. The VSR-10 and L96 / AWP platforms are the most upgraded designs in airsoft, with a deep catalogue of triggers, cylinders, hop-up units and barrels. The M24 / M700, Kar98k and Mosin-Nagant replicas suit historical and milsim loadouts. A designated marksman rifle (DMR) is a semi-auto-locked AEG or gas rifle built for the mid range: it gives you follow-up shots and a magazine instead of a single BB at a time, and most sites allow it a higher energy than a standard rifle but a longer minimum engagement distance.

What to expect out of the box

A stock sniper rifle shoots roughly as far as an upgraded AEG. Range and consistency come from the hop-up and barrel rather than raw power, so budget for a quality bucking, a tight-bore inner barrel and heavy BBs of 0.36 g and up. A scope, a bipod and a ghillie suit complete the role. Remember that most fields require you to carry a sidearm for engagements inside the minimum distance.

Energy limits and age

Sniper rifles are sold to adults (18+) only. Single-shot replicas may reach 2.5 J in the UK, and a defence such as UKARA registration is needed for a realistic imitation; two-tone rifles are the alternative. Elsewhere the limits differ: 2 J in France, 1 J in Italy, 0.5 J for free sale in Germany, NABV membership in the Netherlands. The checkout applies the rules of your delivery address, and many sites set their own, lower, sniper limits with a chronograph test at the gate.
